It’s not fair I’m afraid, I’ve got 2 rigs with dedicated GPUs running this plus a couple CPU only computers.
Right now my folding army consists of :
- Ryzen 5 2600 with a GTX 1050 GPU
- Ryzen 5 3600 with a RX5700 GPU
- Thinkpad with a i7-8550u and a RX550
- Thinkpad with a i7-3632QM
I do have a couple more i3 machines sitting around that I might add into the pool as well as I don’t have much else to do and electricity is still cheap at the moment.
**Disclaimer, I’m a system engineer who’s always tinkering with various computer projects and a former crypto miner so I have way more compute on my hands than any sane person**
I am transitioning more of my roles onto ARM based chips (like the Raspberry Pi) but still have a good deal of x64 platforms laying around.

I’m impressed with myself considering I’m running a mid-range pc for only part of the day. I've got two or three old laptops that will still boot. Maybe I should turn it on and stow stow in a corner. Bet my eee netbook will just chew through those jobs.

I do have an old rig sitting in the living room, but it’s going to take time and effort to get it back online — and it’s only specced for an ethernet cable, and my computer is using the only available ethernet cable.
So...yeah. That rig’s staying in mothballs.
It’s a fair approximation to call jminer’s setup a “three-car
racing team”, while my setup is a “one-car racing team”.

I’m throwing 3 rigs at this and I’m determined to make a dent. I might load f@h up on my other 2 media computers, we'll see how this goes.
i7-3770@4.2 + 780ti , this system is apparently good for about 500k ppd
R5- 3400g+vega 10, good for about 75k ppd
R7-2700u+vega 8, being a notebook I'd be surprised if this system beta more than 25k ppd

Oof, that’s some horsepower. I was feeling good about my jump from nothing to 4th. I’m on an i5-7600 with a GTX1080ti, just threw the i5 (forget which model) with an RX580 that I built for my kid as a gaming rig on it as well. One advantage I have is that electricity is free, I’m on solar with batteries for when the sun is down and I end up feeding a bunch to the grid this time of year so I can leave everything running for free.
A huge bottleneck is getting work units. Sometimes it sits here forever trying and not working at anything. When my rig is running, it says it’s good for 845k points per day, but like I said, sometimes it sits here waiting for work. My kid’s says it’s doing about 550k ppd.

In this spirit, I fired up the field laptop for the evening, adding an I7-8650u with an RX540 to the mix. It would have to be an occasional evening contribution type thing.

An Ethernet switch can solve your lack of network access. I have 2 or 3, five port switches not being used, if you want me to throw one your way.

That should help! Pro-tip is to leave a laptop screen open when doing compute intensive tasks like this so that it stays cooler than with the lid closed.

How do the points even work? I have more points than people that have done more jobs than I. Do you get more points for working through jobs faster?

That’s fine too it helps you track what each machine is doing. The way I’m doing it combines my stats, but makes it nearly impossible to track what each machine has done individually.

I’m not sure, but I think the Work Units vary in size and get served to machines that can handle them. If you look at Hammerhead’s stats, he’s getting some work units, but his particular units can’t run high point numbers. But here’s the thing: The top 100 teams, the bottom of that list, has 1.007 billion points. May seem like a lot, but we racked up over 3 million points in 24 hours, and people are still joining. I think we can crack a billion and get ourselves into the top 100 teams.
Also, I am thinking of modifying the name of the team to be something like Oppositelock on Kinja , for the politics of it. After all, as irritating as the Kinja platform can be, we owe our Oppo existence to it. What do you think?

Eh, Kinja shouldn’t get the credit for our community efforts. We're still Oppo no matter where we are.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
If we crack a billion points, we can be in the top 100 teams. We made 3.4 million in 24 hours and people are still getting signed up and wound up.

I just added my HTPC to the loop. Just 3/4 of the cores on my puny Celeron N3150 box , but it was pretty cool that they have Docker built into LibreELEC and a FAH container ready to go.

I noticed last night that my GPU was getting WU that were worth 160k points while my CPU was chewing on 3k-6k WU. So there’s a huge variety of WUs.

Just added a second one but a fairly low powered one which I only use to play videos on my TV. It takes like 10 hours to complete one workload, but it also only take like 3W lol.

I throttled back my rig at home a bit last night to something that felt a little more reasonable for 24/7 folding. Took the folding power back to medium on the client, which let me turn down the CPU pump and radiator fans significantly, and I dialed back the processor and memory speed on my RX590 to basically RX580 specs. The GPU seems to still be churning along decently enough, but it is putting out a whole lot less heat.
However, now that I’m back in the office I keep looking at my work PC with its i 7-6700 and FirePro W7100 and thinking it could do some decent number crunching. I don't think IT would be impressed with me, so it remains only a wish.

This is one of the reasons I still rock air cooling. Keep up the airflow and heat soaking really isn’t ever a problem. Since you’re still cooling against ambient air temp there isn’t a big difference in performance.
For mining that was one of the things I always did - dial back the power and core clock while overclocking the memory on the GPU. Made it use less power but goosed the bits needed for the task at hand.
Yeah work machines are always awesome for these sort of things, but can get you an ass chewing at the same time...
